What was the cause of the Chandni Chowk Bridge’s destruction?

The Chandni Chowk Bridge, which existed on the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway, was mostly demolished to find a long-term solution to the daily traffic congestion in this region, which call for widening the highway’s lanes.

Details of demolition

The 1992 bridge, which was built by the state’s then-public works department (PWD), stayed up even after the explosion because more steel was used inside the pillars than the NHAI team had anticipated. After an hour, everything started crumbling down after the final section of the bridge was ultimately destroyed with the help of porcelain machines.

Glancing over key details

The 30-year-old Chandni Chowk bridge in Pune took longer than anticipated to bomb than anticipated since the explosions did not force the whole structure to collapse.

It should be noted that more steel was utilized in the bridge’s construction than the Edifice Engineering team had anticipated. However, due to the explosion, traffic in the region was stopped and redirected.

The National Defense Academy (NDA), Varje, and Bavdhan’s main roadways all pass over the Chandni Chowk Bridge, which serves as a point of entry and exit for Mumbai and Bangalore.

Massive, heavy dust and concrete clouds were blown into the air as a result of the explosions.
After the blasts, the trucks and earthmoving equipment that were waiting to be dispatched seized over and cleared the remainder of the bridge.
At roughly 10.30 am, one side of the flyover was made accessible to traffic coming from Mumbai and traveling in the direction of Katraj as work on cleaning the debris off the highway continued throughout the morning.

A large-scale construction project for Chandni Chowk included razing the bridge. To ease the congestion at the crucial intersection, it was destroyed. The construction of a multi-level flyover is now underway at the intersection.
